Vision for Contemporary Elder Sangha
We are all born with an unknown lifespan, and little concern about the passage of time. However, as we age, we we develop awareness that as time behind us lengthens, time before us shortens. As elders, this fact becomes even more palpable, and the mystery of what we are experiencing and what is coming towards us deepens and becomes of intense interest.
The Elder Sangha is an exploration of the obstacles and opportunities on the journey to becoming an Elder.
The Sangha is a vessel in which to learn to balance the polarity between unity and duality, being and doing, giving and receiving.
We welcome vulnerability, authentic expression, openness, humor, kindness, and compassion as qualities that facilitate the development of enriching and fruitful elder years.
Mission Statement for Contemporary Elder Sangha
In our culture, we often hold the limiting mindset that aging is synonymous with becoming old. Our challenge, if we are to be vital in our later years, is to shift that way of thinking by transmuting information and insights into the mature, wise, supportive and kind behavior of an elder.
In the Sangha, we offer experiences and discussions that inform the process of understanding Elderhood, drawing from the rich tradiitons of Eastern and Western practices, philosophies and psychologies, shared through modern technologies like Zoom and electronic correspondence.
Also, we gather yearly from around the country for in person retreats. It is a celebration of elderhood.
